The Almanor A-Frame sits on a hillside perched above Lake Almanor. With views of the lake accompanied by mountains in the background, the Almanor A-Frame feels like a treehouse peering down through the pines.
Referencing its location, Lake Almanor is tucked high in the Sierras of northeastern California at an elevation of 4,500 ft. The lake is formed by Canyon Dam on the southeastern side of the lake and consists of natural runoff from various creeks and natural springs in the area. The lake spans 13 miles in length and 6 miles in width, making it one of the largest lakes in California. Many visitors flock to this area to take advantage of the natural resources including Lassen Volcanic National Park.
As the name highlights, the shape and design of the Almanor A-Frame provide a nostalgic feel, with all of the desired modern amenities. Built in the 1960s, the cabin pays tribute to the vintage ambiance that cabin seekers appreciate. At 1,280 square feet, this a-frame features Scandinavian design wood work, exposed beams, and classic wood paneling from the mid-century era. One item that deserves a special highlight is the 60 year-old olive green General Electric stove. Functioning like the day it rolled off of the assembly line, this original appliance catches the eye of every guest that enters the kitchen. While staying true to the cabin’s roots, the cabin owners have also made a few updates in efforts to provide guests with additional comforts.
Every detail and piece of decor featured in the Almanor A-Frame was well thought out and curated. This is especially evident during the holiday season. With Christmas trees and assorted holiday decor on all floors, it’s hard not to be in the festive spirit during your stay. Not to mention, the vinyl record player is accompanied by a couple of timeless holiday records featuring songs like Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, I’ll Be Home for Christmas, and Silent Night.
Regardless of the season, one of my favorite features of this cabin are the east facing floor to ceiling windows that capture the lakeview sunrises. Few things are better than sipping a hot cup of brewed coffee, while being completely surrounded by the elements of nature. The Almanor A-Frame is a special cabin nestled amongst the pines. A place to unplug from the distractions and commitments of everyday life. It provides an idyllic setting where travelers can simply slow down and be present.
